The Course

Golf Resort Achental is a purpose built large golf resort in the south of Germany. The recently renovated course offers some fantastic scenery and a great layout. Although it has a fair amount of water, the course is actually very fair with wide fairways and generous greens. Although there is not much change in elevation throughout the course, plenty of bunkers and lakes keep these holes from becoming tedious.

The condition of the course was great and the surrounding mountain backdrop was a welcome bonus. With a beautiful half way house positioned on the lake, it makes a great place to stop and admire the scenery. A very nice course and seemingly popular with both tourists and locals.

The Clubhouse

Achental Golf Resort is exactly that. The clubhouse is located inside a huge hotel resort which boasts 200 rooms and 8 bars and restaurants with a spa and of course, the 18 hole golf course. Once here you won’t really need to leave! They have a huge driving range with covered bays, a pitching/chipping area and practice putting greens.

The Location

The resort is situated in Grassau a small traditional Bavarian town. Here you will find plenty of old pubs and bars and plenty of restaurants serving local cuisine. It’s very much out of the tourist loop so its a great place to really experience real Germany but with that said, its just an hour south of Munich and about 40 minuted from Austria’s Salzburg.

Final Thoughts

It’s well set up for a few nights stay and with the spa, it’s an ideal place to leave the wives! Don’t expect too much to do other than good golf, food and drink but it is different compared to the average German golf course and the setting is worth visiting this part of Germany on its own.
