There are many great golf courses in the south of France but Vidauban Golf Club is one you are unlikely to have heard about. Set in the hilly grounds of a national park outside the small town of Vidauban itself, the golf course is basically a private playground for the super wealthy. With only 22 members, Vidauban may well be the most exclusive golf club in the world but this certainly does not compromise the quality of the place. It is simply golfing perfection.

The 18 hole golf course is a Robert Trent Jones Sr design and has been upheld to the highest of standards. Every detail and measures are taken to keep the golf course as one of the finest in the world. With every green complex having been fitted with subair technology, an irrigation system that can cool and heat the greens to control moisture levels, the course stays immaculate all year round.

The fairways are spotless and the lines from each cut are perfect. The edging of the bunkers are clean and sharp. Stone Pines line the fairways and the bases of each tree are bordered with crushed cork and bark and loosely resemble the pine straws of Augusta. The landscape is naturally undulating and the layout makes fantastic use of the terrain.

Although it seems a shame that only a select few ever get to experience Vidauban, its exclusivity makes it a draw for many tour pros who will travel here to work on their games. In fact, in the days when Rory McIlroy made Monaco his home, an extra practice tee was put into the driving range just to accommodate him. When the pros are here, the range will also be equipped with their favoured brand of golf ball.

Overall, the golf course is one of the best in the world. It’s just a pity most mere mortals are unlikely to play around here, the odds on getting a round at Augusta are more likely than playing here!
